Newly-Minted

So here begins my journey as a full-fledged, newly-minted educator! Everywhere I go and everything I do, lately, has been about collecting- ideas, decorations, organizers, curriculum, jokes, you name it. Granted, I still haven't acquired a job yet...but that is in the works!!! I just recently graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Psychology, so I'm in the process of getting my temporary teaching license and undergoing an alternative pathway to teaching certification. It's a work in progress.

Primarily, cover letters and resumes have been carving out a lot of my time lately (as with all the collecting). I keep dreaming about my future classroom, and the students I will have. My goal is to teach middle school Social Studies (or English). At this point, you must be thinking, SHE'S CRAZY! MIDDLE SCHOOL?!?! Yes. Middle School. Substitute teaching the last three years has helped me to realize that the older kids are definitely my niche. Why? Well, I'll answer that in another post. For now, I'll just say that I enjoy their company (as shocking as it seems).

Most importantly, I need to explain this blog. This blog is about something much more than my career, or education, or teaching- it's about how will I be able to facilitate social change within the classroom? How can I engrave a positive influence in the minds' of our future leaders, teachers, politicians, etc.? And in a way that they relate? I feel like that is my biggest concern right now. Not even my semi-anxiety about teacher interviews, tops this worry.

Currently, as a sub, I feel like I'm doing well; but I know being a teacher is significantly different- and in a much better way. This is because I also feel like substitutes may have it harder than teachers. Not in the sense that we are in charge or have to carry out the lesson plans (that is a piece of cake), but the student misconduct that seems to escalate with the notion that substitutes = a human being to take advantage of. But I digress, being a sub is a whole different story that I will explain later, as well.

My hope for this blog is to enlighten, educate, inspire, help or make a difference to teachers and future educators. After all, teachers are the corner-stone of every other profession!

Thanks for reading! There's much more to come! Enjoy!
